Unit Activities:
Discussion participation will be a part of all units. We will have structured, student-led discussions as part of every major activity
Response writing will also be a part of every unit. Articles you read will be sources for writing of critiques, comparisons, and personal responses.
Business writing is a mandatory part of CTE education, so you will also work on business e-mails, project proposals, resumes, and other kinds of writing that will aid your professional growth.
A Journal will house both response writing and drafts of formal business writing and will be checked on a bi-weekly basis.

Projects
During semester one students will identify a specialty within the world of construction. This is entirely up to each student. Examples include:
After selecting their topic students will select and read articles on their specialty and (where possible) interview professionals in the field. The results of this work will be written up and compiled in a guidebook to the field. Students will then develop a project around their topic. This could take many formats, from a traditional written paper, to a model, demonstration, or actual job-site experience. These will be shared virtually.
Semester two will be dedicated to creating a professional portfolio. This will include:
Course readings will be selected as the course proceeds to ensure they relate directly to the projects on which we are working. Students will also complete self-selected independent pleasure reading activities.
