How does your book reflect the world?

Hello all-
Today's topic related to Context. The question is how the book reflects the world in which it's set. How is that setting different from our everyday life? What techniques does the writer use to bring that world to life? Pick a sentence or two that you think best represents the world of the book and tell us why. Here's an example from All Quiet on the Western Front:

"The pure fragrance of the water and the melody of the winding the poplars held our fancies. We loved them dearly, and the image of those days still makes my heart pause in its beating." Here Remarque's main character, Paul Baumer, remembers a beautiful spot from his childhood. The imagery here is almost poetic, and he uses personification of the trees to give the place a life of its own. This is even more poignant because the memory is juxtaposed against Paul's daily life in the hell that is the trenches of World War One.

"we go up to the front two days earlier than usual. on the way we pass a shelled school-house. Stacked up against its longer side is a high double wall of yellow, unpolished, brand-new coffins. They still smell of resin, and pine and the forest. there are at least a hundred." This excerpt from the book shows the horrors of war that the soldiers experience everyday.

“I can go no further...mother, mother, Paul is here. I lean against the wall and grip my helmet and rifle. I hold them as tight as I can, but I cannot take another step, the staircase fades before my eyes, I support myself with the butt of my rifle against my feet and clench my teeth fiercely, but I cannot speak a word, my sister’s call has made me powerless.” This quote doesn’t quite explain the world of the book but rather the world the characters come back to when they come home. The author uses imagery to set a scene for the reader to show that he should be happy to see his family again but yet something is stopping him from feeling those emotions.

"I open my eyes—my fingers grasp a sleeve, an arm. A wounded man? I yell to him—no answer—a dead man. My hand gropes farther, splinters of wood—now I remember again that we are lying in the graveyard." This quote to me best reflects the world of the book because it shows the terror that was experienced in the trenches for these soldiers . When compared to the day to day life of us, this would be something out of a horror movie. The narrator using first person and internal monologue does a great job of bringing this world to life and showing how they experienced the terrors of the trenches.

"He says nothing;all that is behind him; he is entirely alone now with his little life of nineteen years, and cries because it leaves him" This best reflects the world of the book by showing the inner thoughts of a boy watching another boy, and feeling the similarity between them
